Using a cane, walker, or crutches can provide stability and support for a resident who has trouble walking on their own. The nursing assistant should stay on the resident's weaker side to prevent them from falling or losing balance in case they stumble. If the nursing assistant were to stay on the resident's stronger side, they may unintentionally push or pull the resident off balance. Standing behind the resident (option C) would also not be ideal as it may make the resident feel uncomfortable and unsupported. Keeping a distance (option A) may also not be helpful as the nursing assistant should be close enough to help if the resident needs it.
